No More Annoying Delete Prompts in Google Photos
According to an update made to the Media management access section on the Android Developers site, apps targeting Android 12 APIs will no longer need to display a delete warning for each file operation.
The official update reads:
This means you’ll be able to remove photos from Google Photos and any other apps without having to go through a prompt on your Android 12-running device.
If your app targets Android 12, you can request users to give your app permission to do each of the following without needing to prompt the user for each file operation.
How This Change Will Make Deleting Photos Easier in Google Photos
Currently, only the system gallery app on an Android device can delete files without showing any prompts. This means if you use an app like Google Photos, which is a third-party gallery app, you need to give permission to the app before it can remove your photos for good.
When the above change gets implemented, a third-party app like Google Photos will not be required to display a prompt before removing your photos. The app will be able to delete the photos as soon as you tap the delete option.
In order for this feature to be built into Google Photos, the app will have to be updated with the newer Android developer guidelines. Also, you must run Android 12 on your device to be able to use this feature.
Right now, Pixel users already have access to this option and they don’t get any prompts while removing files from Google Photos. This is because Photos is the default system gallery app on these phones.
Deleting Google Photos Will Become Easier With Android 12
This is really good news for those of you who are annoyed by the constant delete prompts shown by apps like Google Photos on your devices. Once this update goes live, your photos will delete without any prompts.
