This was confirmed by Google at its GDC 2019 keynote address. Whereas the PS4 Pro has 4.2 teraflops of power and the Xbox One X has 6.0 teraflops, Google Stadia offers a staggering 10.7 teraflops. This will allow Google Stadia to stream games at 4k resolution and 60 frames per second with little trouble. And that’s not even the full extent of its capabilities. At the GDC 2019 keynote, Google teased that Stadia can potentially deliver games at 8k resolution and 120 frames per second, which should future-proof the platform for some time to come.
Of course, all this power doesn’t mean a lot if Google Stadia doesn’t have the games to back it up. The keynote is still going on at the time of this writing, but so far it’s confirmed to support Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Doom Eternal, NBA 2K, and more, including exclusive games. More games are expected to be announced for Stadia, especially since Google is partnering with id Software and Ubisoft on the project.
From what we’ve seen of Google Stadia on-stage, it seems as though Google is not exaggerating when it says that it’s more powerful than the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X combined. It’s capable of instantly transferring from playing a game on a laptop to playing on a phone. It can stream at high resolutions and with a stable framerate. And assuming it’s able to do this when it’s available to the public, it’s safe to say that Stadia will be a game-changer.
