Google is also said to be willing to use its own in-house processors in its Chromebook hardware. The chipset is apparently codenamed Whitechapel, and Axios’ source – “a source familiar with Google’s effort” – said it is being “designed in cooperation” with Samsung using 5-naometer technology not yet seen in smartphones. The report claims Google received its first working versions of the new processor in recent weeks and is aiming to put them to use in 2021’s Google Pixel phone if possible....

The update aims to enhance the user experience by having more queries and displayed text in Spanish, according to Google’s The Keyword blog. Users can add or change the language to Spanish by going to Languages in Assistant settings, which is located on the Google Home app. Doing so also changes the top navigation tabs and cards on the device into Spanish. New commands have been made available that the devices can understand, like telling them to play a Spanish rock music playlist or look up Mexican recipes....

If reports are to be believed, this could result in Samsung putting an end to its ChatOn and WatchOn apps that convert Google users to Samsung users.

Interestingly, Fadell is a former employee of Apple and currently works for Google. The duo founded Nest in 2010 and they will work with Google post the acquisition as well. According to a Google blog post published on Wednesday, a new security update will apply to some Google Drive files to make sharing links more secure. In an interview, Final Fantasy 14 game director Naoki Yoshida hinted that the popular MMORPG could come to Google Stadia. When discussing plans to bring the game to Nintendo and Xbox platforms, Yoshida confirmed that talks are underway with Nintendo, Microsoft - and Google. Google Trips: Google’s Travel Planner Google first launched Google Trips in 2016 as a travel organizer app for Android users (and later for Apple users in 2018). The app allowed users to plan their upcoming trips by making plans for reservations, destination tours, and places to visit. Users could search for famous places at their destinations, trending food there, and take notes of their vacations days plans. Google Trips acted like a mobile itinerary for the users, which had information about user’s hotel bookings and other travel reservations available on Gmail....

Safer Internet Day is possibly the most appropriate time for Google to reveal its plans for improving user protections across several services, starting with high-risk users. It will be teaming up with various organizations ahead of the 2022 US midterms to expand protections for users it determines to be at greater risk. Said organizations include Veterans Campaign, Women’s Public Leadership Network, LGBTQ Victory Institute, Latino Victory, and more. Along with improving high-risk user protections, Google will also be rolling out “account-level enhanced safe browsing” sometime in March 2022....

Ron Filipkowski, who was appointed to the 12th Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission by Governor Ron DeSantis, submitted his resignation on Tuesday after authorities raided the home of Rebekah Jones, a former state data scientist who accused the governor of manipulating information about the coronavirus. Speaking to Newsweek, Filipkowski called the state’s decision to seize property from Jones “crazy” and said he believes DeSantis has covered up coronavirus data and is now targeting scientists who are trying to tell the truth....
