It has been quite some time since Google came up with an update to its Android Jelly Bean, but the wait seems to have gotten just a little longer. Apparently, the delay is being caused by Google’s decision to allow its OEMs to update their existing range of phones to Android 4.2.2. That also means that we won’t get to see the Motorola X or the Nexus 5 anytime soon either....

The company will add three new tabs along the bottom of the main Maps screen: Saved, Contribute, and Updates. The Saved tab gives you easier access to all the places you’ve saved to see later, while the Contribute tab lets you share your own local knowledge about places on the map....
The newly announced Google Pixel 5a with 5G looks to be both an upgrade from the Pixel 4a 5G and a more affordable alternative to the Pixel 5 or the upcoming Pixel 6. The Pixel 5a’s $449 price tag puts it at $50 less than the Pixel 4a 5G ($499), and about $250 less than the Pixel 5 ($699). Don’t let the nearly identical looks fool you though; the Pixel 5a 5G is a marked improvement over the Pixel 4a 5G, while not quite matching up to the Pixel 5....

Every computer platform has its user interface conventions. This includes how it looks, how it works, and what users can expect. For example, the Mac uses the ⌘+V shortcut to paste, whereas Windows uses Control+V. And while the Mac has a single menu bar that is always at the top of the screen, Windows puts menu bars on each window. Third-party apps that don’t follow these conventions feel off, and don’t fit in....

Google also confirmed that Stadia would offer cross-platform play. Stadia players will be able to play multiplayer with other players in supported games on other, supported platforms. Google has yet to confirm which platforms or games will be supported. However, Google is working with id Software on DOOM Eternal, and Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Odyssey was part of the Google streaming service’s Project Stream test, so it seems safe to suggest that these two will be supported....
Google CEO Sundar Pinchai teased the future of Project Stream during the company’s recent earnings call, revealing that the feedback to the initial Project Stream test was “super positive.” Google is “excited” to keep building Project Stream and its low-latency game streaming, saying that it will “help us drive the newer computing platforms we’re working on.” While Pinchai didn’t detail Google’s Project Stream plans exactly, the CEO did confirm that “you will see us do more there in 2019....
The deal, which was set to expire at the end of 2020, is said to be worth from $400 to $450 million. ZDNet said that Mozilla is expected to officially announce the deal in November as part of the company disclosing its 2019 financials. It said that the details of the deal were leaked to it as Mozilla announced the layoff of over 250 employees on Wednesday. The layoffs were apparently part of a restructuring of Mozilla’s core business, and the company is not in financial trouble....
With votes still being counted, Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden appears closer to an Electoral College victory than President Donald Trump. Biden also leads in the popular vote but Trump has still claimed some 69 million ballots, more than any candidate in history save for Biden’s 2020 haul. “It probably isn’t the thorough repudiation that people like me were hoping for,” Sarah Longwell, founder of anti-Trump coalition Republican Voters Against Trump, told Newsweek when asked about the state of play in the election....

Russian President Vladimir Putin has made the same allegations, attempting to deflect the conclusions of U.S. intelligence services, Congress and special counsel Robert Mueller that Moscow directed a systematic campaign of interference in the 2016 election....
These will actually be two different versions. The Switch version will be the original game, running via the Switch’s virtual N64 console. The Xbox version will be a “faithful recreation” in 4K and may end up looking better. Either way, this is a true classic, and while game design has moved on, there’s still no substitute for fun and great design. Or is there? Perhaps GoldenEye 007 is just a ghost built on nostalgia, and it won’t hold up today....
