The study uses the NPD’s official numbers for how many people are playing games and how often. Specifically, 34 million people play games on average 22 hours a week. At this rate of play, those gamers would eat through roughly 1,386GB of monthly data if they played exclusively on Google Stadia’s 4K streaming service. And that’s without considering how much traffic they’d use outside of gaming. With at least 17% of BrodbandNow’s surveyed respondents saying they have a data cap, that’s a potential 6 million gamers who would be in a bad situation....

This was confirmed by Google at its GDC 2019 keynote address. Whereas the PS4 Pro has 4.2 teraflops of power and the Xbox One X has 6.0 teraflops, Google Stadia offers a staggering 10.7 teraflops. This will allow Google Stadia to stream games at 4k resolution and 60 frames per second with little trouble. And that’s not even the full extent of its capabilities. At the GDC 2019 keynote, Google teased that Stadia can potentially deliver games at 8k resolution and 120 frames per second, which should future-proof the platform for some time to come....

The subscription service, which launched last November, promises 4K 60fps gameplay across multiple screens – whether TV, laptop, tablet or phone – without needing any additional or console. You’ll just need a Wi-Fi connection, which of course BT is happy to provide. The Stadia Premiere Edition bundle, worth £119, includes 3 months’ access to Stadia Pro, a Chromecast Ultra and a wireless Stadia controller. The controller connects directly to the internet through Wi-Fi, instead of a local console or PC, which works to reduce gameplay latency....
